Lactation Brownies Recipe for Busy Postpartum Days

Freshly baked lactation brownies. Text reads

The “this feels like cheating, but I don’t care” postpartum treat.

Because easy counts right now

Some days are for making everything from scratch, but postpartum isn’t one of those times. This is the time to keep meals simple and easy.

If using a boxed mix gets you something warm, chocolatey, and actually eaten, that’s a win.

And yes, Ghirardelli brownies are totally worth it. While you’re at it, why not add a few extra nutrients to help with milk production?

Why this works in postpartum

  • Low effort → minimal prep when you don’t have much energy
  • Calorie-dense → good for recovery and gives you energy
  • Customizable → easy way to sneak in beneficial ingredients
  • Actually enjoyable → it matters just as much

Ingredient highlights

  • Brownie mix: convenience is always nice
  • Brewer’s yeast + flax: added nutrients and lactation support
  • Eggs and oil: fats and protein for recovery
  • Vanilla: boosts flavor without any extra effort

Ingredients

  • 1 box brownie mix
  • Eggs, oil, and water (per box instructions)
  • 2–3 tbsp brewer’s yeast
  • 2 tbsp flax
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven according to box instructions.
  2. Prepare brownie mix as directed.
  3. Stir in brewer’s yeast, flax, and vanilla.
  4. Pour the batter into your pan.
  5. Bake according to package instructions.

Optional (recommended):

  • Use a silicone mini muffin pan to make brownie bites.
  • For brownie bites, reduce the baking time and check early for a fudgy texture.

Postpartum-friendly tips

  • Skip the chocolate chips: most mixes already include them
  • Portion-friendly: brownie bites are easier to eat on the go
  • Freezer-friendly: store extras for later
  • No guilt: easy food is still good food, especially in postpartum

Real talk

This is one of those snacks where convenience wins, and it should.

Low-energy, easy options are just as helpful as nutrient-dense meals during pregnancy and postpartum. You don’t have to make everything from scratch to take good care of yourself.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is keep it simple so it actually gets made.
